River Goyt clean up
Date published: 06/10/2009
Various local groups came together to support a litter pick event, which took place at the River Goyt in Marple Bridge between Strine's Dove Côte and Low Lea Road.
The event took place last Sunday ,4th October and was organised by the Friends of Our Valley as part of the Viridor Mersey Basin Week who provided a grant to buy gloves, picks and waste bags for the event.
Other groups involved in the event included Manchester Canoe Club and Disley and New Mills Angling Club.
Bernard Stewart, Chair of Friends of Our Valley said, "Our valley is generally very clean but litter does flow downstream in times of high flow and can be really unsightly. It is fantastic to see the enthusiasm of so many different local people and organisations who have come together and volunteered their time and efforts in support of Friends of Our Valleys first litter pick day, part of Mersey Basin Week 2009.
"We are really grateful to Waste Solutions SK, Manchester Canoe Club, the Mersey Basin Campaign and all our volunteers for their help in making Friends of Our Valleys first litter pick event such a success."
