Marple Robbie to be a TV star?

Date published: 19/01/2010

So you think you can dance? Well students at Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College certainly think that local hero and former student, Robbie White can, despite failing to impress the judges on this week’s programme with his hip-hop routine with fellow contestant Yanet. They are remaining loyal and are saving up their hard earned pennies to vote him into the final of the BBC programme which is testing the dancers to the limit in various dance genres.

Robbie, 22, from Marple enrolled at the College in 2002 to study AS Levels in Dance, Drama & Theatre Studies, Music and Psychology. Even in those early days, Dance Tutor, Judith Roberts knew that she was witnessing an outstanding talent,

“Robbie was an amazing dancer and choreographer back then. However, learning Labanotation, the art of writing dance down, proved to be more of a challenge. Robbie would sit for hours at his computer, writing his coursework essay, putting the notation in to it to get the best marks possible, as he realized that the theoretical side of dancing is just as important as the practical.”

“There is no doubt that Robbie is exceptionally talented and I feel very privileged to have had him in my class, albeit for a short time. Now our Saturday evenings are booked in front of the television to cheer him on and we wish him every success in the remaining weeks.”
