It may be bitter outside, but it’s even more bitter inside for customers at the Star Inn in Cheadle. The high street local has been named pub of the month for February 2010 by the consumer rights group Campaign for Real Ale. CAMRA has more than 1000 members in Stockport and South Manchester and looks to promote quality pubs who sell real beer across the region.

Jim Flynn, regional treasurer said, “Well done to the Star Inn, to be pub of the month is a real accolade.
“We look for great licensees that put their imagination and zest into the place, a great atmosphere, a welcome to all, and of course excellent cast ales.
“The Star Inn has it all.
“It’s not just a one size fit’s all though, the pub could be a community local or an upmarket eatery in the city. It’s the people that are important when you’re looking for a great pub.”

Tony and Mary Hughes, landlords at the Star Inn will be presented with the award at a special night on Thursday February 25. Everyone is welcome to come and join in the entertainment with a buffet, DJ, karaoke and good beer on offer.

Landlord Tony said, “We’re just a community pub in the heart of the community. “We get a mix of ages in, we have quality beers, and we know most of the customers by name.
“I’m a lover of real ales I worked at Hydes for a number of years, so to get recognition from CAMRA is great.”
